We don’t know what transformer this meter’s connected to either.
If you’re an older Utility, chances are your grid has information fragmented across multiple old systems that are increasingly harder to maintain. Your Maintenance system is unwieldy and there’s a process overhead that your workers have to endure.
At one customer, we saw 50+ legacy systems still maintained for the sole purpose of locating what meters are connected to transformers.
How do you handle this fragmentation? Here’s how we approach this problem:
Cleanse and Harmonize - your data may be outdated, missing information and not following modern standards. For example, your transformers may have their location in latitude and longitude, but your meters have street addresses, with no easy conversion or visualization for your maintenance team. Taking the time to normalize your data enables you to purge incorrect data and start with clean, accurate data. In addition, establishing data records according to a standard (e.g. UNSPSC) will help ensure your data is standards compliant for any future work.
Map and Establish rules - Here’s where Industry Best Practices and our expertise can help our customers understand how data connects to each other. For example, we can convert lat long automatically to a street address and vice versa when that record is accessed.
Orchestrate data - Establish a system of record for your EAM. This system holds the gold standard for location, parts, equipment information, etc.
We rely on Prospecta’s Master Data Online solution to help accomplish this. We combine data from legacy source systems. Here’s a diagram that shows how MDO can govern data from multiple systems to deliver data you can trust.
